Nels Cline + Thurston Moore = Wow
Live Music, Music July 12th, 2007Hopefully you dug the stuff from yesterday. If not, this may be a bit rough for you. If so, this still may be a bit rough for you.
On 1996-12-30 Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and Nels Cline played a one-off,in-store performance @ Rhino Records in Westwood, CA. The whole thing ran short of an hour and it’s one, long improvisation. Today, we have three clips from that performance.
That very same day they recorded their album Pillow Wand which is similar in the respect that it is a lengthy improvisation… but is actually a bit more at ease. And yes, the performance @ Rhino was released on a small indie label and is, at times, referred to as a bootleg and sold for a lot of money. (Via google, I found it for $92. Ouch.)
Oh, and just so you guys don’t think I’ve gone totally bonkers with noise rock, here’s some sweet music from another of my new favorite bands, Rilo Kiley. This is a captured web-stream of a Live, In-Studio performance of their songs, “Does He Love You” and “It Just Is.” The video is not really well synced but the audio is great (for what it is.)

I absolutely adore that first song, “Does He Love You.” I’m not even sure what it is but it hooks me something strong.
More on them soon.
